In the midst of the widespread adult confusion, division, and rancor during the COVID-19 pandemic, Sara Meyer felt a deep call to littleness and the joy of the Gospel. She approached Allison Hsu with the idea of creating The Gospel of Matthew for Little Ones. Their collaborative labor of love truly has been Good News!
Currently, families and educators can choose from scores of children's bibles and individual bible stories, yet there is no treatment of the specific Gospels for young Catholics to grow closer to Christ, the very Word to which all God's words point (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 102). The Gospel of Matthew for Little Ones, we hope to address this great lack in an inviting format: a vibrant illustration on the left, three stanzas on the right, and chapter notations in the right margin to encourage the next step of delving more deeply into the Good News. The final page is a reflection geared toward adults, to encourage everyday application.
Matthew's Gospel reflects on the theme of trusting God with childlike faith versus clinging to human power, which ultimately brings destruction. From Jesus' mysterious conception to his threefold temptation to his glorious Resurrection, angels remain with the faithful, encouraging complete trust in our loving Father.
May we grow in faith as little ones, whose angels always look upon the face of the Father in Heaven (see Matt 18:10). Amen.
